How does weight loss injections work?
Ozempic is designed to supress your appetite. It contains the active ingredient Semaglutide, which mimics the hormone glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1). Semaglutide helps regulate blood sugar by decreasing the production of insulin opposing glucagon. This slows down the emptying of the stomach, meaning you feel fuller for longer.
How do you use Ozempic?
We recommend to start on the 0.25mg dose and use it for 4 weeks. Then the dose can be increased to 0.5mg for a further 4 weeks. The maintenance dose is 1mg which can be used thereafter. The injection is easy to use and should be administered weekly to the fat layer of the abdomen, upper thigh or upper arm. (Pinch the fatty layer and inject). Do not inject into the muscle. Inject any time of the day with or without meals. Be sure to rotate the injection site and the site is clean and dry.

Is Ozempic Effective for Weight Loss??
Yes. That’s the short answer. The effectiveness of Ozempic for weight loss has been proven in clinical trials.
A study published in the New England Journal of Medicine in 2021 examined the impact of Semaglutide on 1961 adults with a BMI over 30 or a BMI over 27 with a weight-related condition. The participants were monitored for 68 weeks, with half taking Semaglutide and the other half taking a placebo. The results showed that those who took Semaglutide combined with a healthy diet and exercise lost 14.9% of their body weight, while those who took the placebo only lost 2.4%. This significant difference in weight loss demonstrates the effectiveness of Semaglutide.
Is Ozempic Licensed for Weight Loss in the UK?
Ozempic is only authorised for controlling blood sugar in individuals with type 2 diabetes in the UK, and has not been approved for weight loss. However, the active ingredient in Ozempic, semaglutide, is also present in Wegovy, which has been approved for weight loss in overweight or obese adults in the UK.
So at present, Ozempic is licensed in the treatment of diabetes and is being used off license for weight loss. This means that if you want to use this drug for weight loss, a Doctor or a clinician will have to approve and prescribe it. Our online prescribing service can do this for you if this is an appropriate medication for you.
